Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his ICT counterpart have been summoned by the Senate.

In a letter seen by Pulselive.co.ke, the two were invited to appear before the Standing Committee on National Security, Defense and Foreign Relations regarding the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS).

"It is expected that the two CSs shall appraise Senators on the matter and provide a comprehensive response to the issues raised," the letter signed by Speaker Ken Lusaka read in part.

6 issues raised with NIIMS Huduma Namba

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot raised six issues with regard to the registration process that kicked off with a pilot phase two weeks ago.

Among the issues raised was the question on why Dr Matiang'i had not briefed Parliament on the intended registration before rolling it out.

He also asked for Parliament to be furnished with clear reasons to justify the registration process seeing that a lot of personal data will be collected from citizens.

Huduma Namba was first announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta following the January 15 Dusit attack.
