Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti has spoken for the first time, after the court of Appeal nullified his election.
He added that his decision was arrived at after consultations with his party leader Raila Odinga and his legal team.
“After consultations with my party leader, I am proceeding to the Supreme Court to appeal the judgement of the Court of Appeal on Homa Bay County gubernatorial election petition. May God bless Homa Bay! Moreover, this decision heavily relies on the legal advice by my valuable legal team whom I wish to commend for their immense contribution to this legal process,” said Governor Cyprian Awiti.
Court of Appeal
His action came after the Court of Appeal upheld the nullification of his August 8 victory during the 2017 General election.
The ruling was made at Kisumu law courts by Lady Justice Fatuma Sichale.
In February, Mr Awiti's win was successfully petitioned by former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga, who was his arch-rival during the polls.
Magwanga argued that the election was marred by massive irregularities.
