Deputy President William Ruto has come under fire for reportedly undermining the unity deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition boss Raila Odinga.

Led by Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, the leaders questioned why the DP is anxious over the deal and his strong opposition to constitutional ammendments championed by the opposition.

Nyamita noted that DRuto “is very cagey to a point of not acting as the second in command in Kenya” when the opposition only wants “a referendum to end tribalism and favouritism in the country".

Mathare MP Antony Oluoch urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to reign his authority and contain dissent in Jubilee.

"During Matiba’s funeral, the head of state spoke of dissenting voices in his yard. We call on him to crack the whip and make us move forward in unity as a country,"Oluoch said.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala urged the DP not to be jittery over 2022 but instead support the push for a referendum. "We may not talk of 2022 but since independence, only two communities have changed leadership batons in Kenya. We will not allow that when the election comes," Malala said.

Jubilee’s Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama admitted that “there are those in Jubilee who are against the handshake”.

He however defended the DP from the accusations, stating that “our Deputy President supported it from the word go. We now need unity in the country”.

The leaders were addressing the public during a fund-raiser at a Church in Owich, Migori county.
