Jubilee MPs reveal secret plans to scuttle DP Ruto’s 2022 bid

This comes in the wake of multiple media reports of the existence of a powerful clique of businessmen and state official keen on ensuring that the DP’s quest for the presidency fails.

Vocal Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei confirmed that “There are political cannibals on the loose. We know them. They want to use the President’s name to hatch an evil scheme to try and block Ruto”.

According to The Sunday Nation, the team keen on taming DP Ruto and cutting him to size is coordinated by a secretariat based in Nairobi and led by an influential Kibaki-era senior civil servant.

The secret plans were first made public by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who alleged that Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho was leading a team in holding night meetings to scheme against DP Ruto's 2022 bid.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu who earlier on stated that DP Ruto is not guaranteed of support from Mount Kenya region confirmed the existence of this group.

The group is believed to be behind the March 09 handshake and the push for a referendum that left Jubilee party deeply divided and suspicious as 2022 succession race takes shape.

Wambugu hinted that even if Ruto was to vie, the group is still concerned on his choice of a running mate.

“Rift Valley leaders would rather have a malleable Mt Kenya person to be Ruto’s ‘partner’; someone they ‘own’. This will allow them to manage him and basically do whatever they want, without being checked. That is the problem.” Wambugu stated.

Other than this group , the DP will also have to face it out with NASA leader Raila Odinga should he choose to run in 2022.

The growing influence of Baringo senator Gideon Moi is also understood to be causing concerns in DP Ruto's camp with fears that he could split the Rift Valley vote block to the disadvantage of the DP.
