A section of legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto under the Tangatanga movement have revealed their stand on the referendum push by Thirdway Alliance’s Dr. Ekuru Aukot.
Their declaration comes barely two days after IEBC announced that it had verified the 1,222,541 signatures collected by the party, giving a go-ahead for the process that could significantly alter the political landscape and leave many political casualties in its wake.
Led by Kandara MP, Alice Wahome, the female MPs lamented that they were no consulted and as such would neither accept nor support the referendum bid.
"It will not be business as usual. The Constitution is only nine years old yet we hear people making suggestions that isolate us.” Wahome stated.

The MPs who were speaking at a public event in North Imenti made it clear that they would support a government and intiatives that are all-inclusive and trashed the current push for a referendum.
“The government that we will form in 2022 must have enough room for women, youth and men," Wahome added.
Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa alleged that the push for constitutional amendment is a scheme to create posts for a few individuals and asserted that it will be resisted at all costs.
"We shall resist any attempt by some few individuals who want to create posts for themselves,” Jumwa asserted.

Murkomen hints at new developments
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has hinted that the constitutional amendment push by Thirdway Alliance’s Ekuru Aukot could receive overwhelming support from the Senate.
Murkomen revealed that Senators are considering throwing their weight behind bid that proposes to make the Senate an upper House.
“In the current context of what we are going through, the constitutional issues we are dealing with in the Senate and counties, Aukot’s proposals are extremely attractive to those who support devolution, if it is that attractive, there is a high probability that his proposal will pass,” Murkomen stated.

“Because of the provision on strengthening Senate and strengthening devolution and guaranteeing 35 per cent going to counties again that is extremely attractive to Senate there are high chances senators might welcome his proposals based on the current struggle we have had for the last six years,” added the Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator.
