Western MPs reveal how they are being used after meeting DP Ruto

Meeting with DP Ruto leaves Western MPs divided

This week’s meeting with Deputy President William Ruto has left Members of Parliament and politician from Western Kenya divided.

Led by Kakamega Deputy Governor Philip Kutima, the intention of the MPs who met DP Roto came into question.

“You are talking about uniting our people while at the same time chasing after Ruto, how is that possible? Kutima asked.

His concerns were echoed by Former Shinyalu MP Anami Lisamula who hit out at the MPs for being used by other politicians to achieve their ambitions.

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

“You should be meeting more regularly to deliberate on our political destiny other than waiting for other people to bring you together and discuss how you will help them realize their political ambitions,” Lisamula said.

However, Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda who was part of the delegation that met the DP was quick to defend the meeting, stating that it was meant to discuss the development of the region.

“We met Ruto to deliberate on how we can work together in bringing development to our people, the meeting had nothing to do with 2022 succession politics” Muhanda clarified.

Last weekend, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi traversed the region with calls for unity.

The two leaders have been working closely after Wetangula was ousted from the Senate Minority Leader post.

They were also united by circumstances after they skipped Odinga’s swearing in and were left out as Odinga met with President Uhuru Kenyatta and pledged to work together.
