Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko confirms Ken Okoth fathered son to nominated MCA Anita Thumbi

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has confirmed that Kibra MP Ken Okoth fathered the son of nominated Nairobi MCA Anita Thumbi.

Speaking during the legislator's memorial service at Moi Girls Secondary School - Nairobi, Governor Sonko revealed that the two met while she was working for the Sonko Rescue Team.

"Hii ya mwisho ni kali, na najua watu wengi hawatafurahia nikisema lakini kama Gavana lazima niseme. Naheshimu mama, na najua mama akona huzuni na singependa ahuzunike zaidi. (What I'm about to say will offend many people but as Governor I have to say it. I respect that Mama is in mourning but I don't want to make her go through any more pain).

"In 2013, Ken invited me [Sonko Rescue Team] to conduct a medical camp in Kibra and there were beautiful nurses around, so Ken fell in love with one of the nurses named Anita and I am a witness that they were dating. I respect Monica and I know it is a difficult time for her but let me confirm that Ken has a son and his name is Okoth just like him.

"After the 2017 elections, Ken came to me and pleaded with me to nominate his 'second wife' to the county assembly and out of my friendship with Ken I nominated Ann Thumbi. I just ask that Ken's son is recognized," the governor begun.

Anita was stopped at Lee Funeral Home today - Governor Sonko

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Governor Sonko urged the family not to leave out his son in the preparations for his burial.

"The two love birds did not hide the fact that they shared a son .Unfortunately today, Anita was stopped at the Lee funeral home as she took their son to pay last respect to his father. Who does that ?

"Inspite of denials from some members of the family, it's clear that Ken recognized and was there for his son as demonstrated by pictures and various documented correspondences," the statement read in part.

Governor Sonko later announced that he had provided 15 buses to the residents of Kibra Constituency to travel to Homa Bay County for the burial service that will be held at Gor Rateng' Secondary School.
