Leaked phone recording reveals Sonko and Igathe’s conversation just before he resigned
The two had a lengthy talk on the same day Igathe resigned
The recording heard by Pulselive.co.ke, depicts a seemingly cordial relationship between the two Nairobi County bosses.
In the recording, Sonko briefs his deputy on various official matters, including payments made to road constructors and encourages Igathe to attend a morning television interview with NTV’s Mark Masai.
The conversation also includes a warm banter as the two gentlemen also move away from the official matters to a friendly talk.
At one point, Sonko invites his uncle, an unnamed professor to say hi to the outgoing Nairobi deputy governor.
Igathe would later on Friday evening tender his resignation in a move that caught many people, including his boss at City Hall.
Nairobi County Communication officer Richard Bosire confirmed that the telephone call marked the last conversation that Sonko and Igathe held before the rather surprise resignation.
The call came even as various Nairobi leaders complained that the Deputy Governor failed to consult with stakeholders before his decision to quit.
The recording has also raises questions on Igathe’s claim that he had failed to earn the trust of his boss, given that he does not raise any issue in his last conversation with Sonko.
