MPs disclose plans to impeach Matiang’i, Boinnet and Kihalangwa

MPs to take action on Matiang’i, Boinnet and Kihalangwa after the Miguna Miguna deportation circus

Members of Parliament (MPs) have given CS Fred Matiangi, Immigration boss Gordon Kihalangwa and IG Joseph Boinnet an ultimatum to resign or face impeachment.

To this end, a motion seeking to impeach them for disobeying court orders will be tabled in parliament should they fail to resign.

According to nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi, only two options are available for them: to resign or be forced out of office

Addressing the press on Saturday, the team of close to ten legislators led by allied to the NASA coalition disclosed that they would stop at nothing in their quest to ensure that the three vacate office.

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi disclosed that they would be seeking to impeach the trio after they defied court orders.

He disclosed that the country “cannot have law breakers in security dockets and expect them to maintain law and order. They better leave before we (MPs) force them to leave”.

The trio were convicted by High Court Judge George Odunga after they failed to present themselves as well as opposition politician Miguna Miguna in court as ordered and were each fined Sh200000

Their three dockets were extensively involved in the detention and eventual deportation of the fiery lawyer despite court orders directing that he be granted safe entry into the country.

Miguna Miguna is currently in Dubai undergoing treatment and it is not clear where he will be headed to next.

This stand was supported by Saboti legislator Caleb Khamisi who termed their actions gross misconduct and stated that the trio would be summoned in parliament “to explain why they think they are above the law”.

The leaders were speaking at Nyasita Secondary School in Siaya during a fundraiser that was also attended by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch among others.
