Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Thursday held the first meeting with his cabinet, skipping the ongoing Governors induction, which is being attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Diani Reef Hotel, Kwale County, a few kilometers from his office.

Taking to Twitter just after the closed door meeting which he termed as crucial for his second term in office, Mr Joho divulged that the meeting aimed at laying out strategies for development.

“Today I chaired my first cabinet meeting for my second term to lay out strategies for development and service to the people of our County. From now it is all systems go,” Mr Joho said, at exactly the time President Uhuru Kenyatta was addressing the governors’ induction conference.

In the recent past, Joho and his Kilifi Counterpart Amason Kingi have been championing for secession of the coastal region, citing economic and social marginalisation, a stand Mr Kenyatta has warned against.

Speaking during the ongoing Governors’ Induction Conference in Kwale County, President Kenyatta warned politicians against altering Kenya’s territorial borders adding that such a move would not be tolerated under his administration.

"We shall not tolerate people who will threaten peace, security and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya,” President Kenyatta told the governors.

Raila Odinga led National Super Alliance’s chief strategist and Economist David Ndii initiated the secession talk arguing that the self-determination would server to end the ongoing “political, economic and social marginalisation.
