Jubilee sacks 200 officials

The sacked officials were credited with delivering President Kenyatta's re-election victory in last polls.

The party which is headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto sent the workers home in its latest restructuring plan.

According to The Standard, those affected by the wholesome changes across the country include members of the secretariat, senior directors as well as county coordinators.

The sacking came as a shocker for the party officials who received the surprising news after they resumed from their festive holidays on January 9.

Delivering win

According to reports, majority of those sacked are officials who were largely credited with delivering President Kenyatta's re-election victory in last polls.

The August elections saw the party sweep into power, retaining its majority both in the National Assembly and the Senate.

The party also recorded majority numbers in the Council Of Governors as well as in the county assemblies.

Jubilee reiterated that the drastic move was necessitated by the need to strengthen the party during Kenyatta's second and final term.

2022 politics

However, reports also suggest that the move is motivated by the 2022 succession politics and internal rivalries.

The party's Secretary General Raphael Tuju confirmed the mass sackings but failed to disclose the exact number of the officials sent home and that the move was aimed at making Jubilee more sustainable.

“We have to cut our cloth according to our size. We want to hire and we will do that according to our needs,” Tuju stated.
