Blow for Alfred Mutua after High Court ruling

The latest ruling is a major blow for Mutua's position as Machakos County boss.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has suffered a major blow after the High Court threw out his application to strike out Wavinya Ndeti’s petition challenging his August 8 victory.

In her petition filed through her lawyer Daniel Maanzo, Ms Ndeti cited electoral malpractices during the entire process.

“There were no elections conducted in Machakos county. What happened was a personal and county affair. You cannot go into an election with your workers being the one who is running the same,” she said.

The former Kathiani MP said that she was confident her victory was stolen and should the courts grant her wish, she will definitely be the next Machakos Governor.

In her 10,000-page affidavit, she tabled documents containing evidence that the election was flawed and that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) irregularly declared Mutua the winner and wants the court to overturn his win.

She alleged that Governor Mutua used county resources including vehicles and funds to campaign for his re-election, contravening the election laws.

However, Mutua maintained that he won the election fairly and dismissed claims of irregularities.

In the August 8 election, Mutua was declared winner after garnering 241,851 votes against Ndeti’s 201,780.
