Presidential petition suffers major blow after Maraga’s latest ruling

The final ruling will be delivered by Monday.

Chief Justice David Maraga stated that the petitioners should argue their case in normal court arguments, rather than filing a report of the scrutiny that was ordered by the Supreme Court Justices on Wednesday morning.

The decision dealt the two petitioners, Njonjo Mue and Khelef Khalifa, a setback as they had already made their arguments.

They petitioners, however, will have time to raise any issues they noticed during the audit while they will be making their closing arguments.

In the August 8 election, there was a preponderance, among legal experts, that the Supreme Court registrar’s report formed the basis of the nullification of the election.

The Court, at the time, ordered the registrar to make an independent report after the scrutiny that was conducted at the IEBC elections.

The petitioners had also lost a previous application to access the IEBC servers.

They also withdrew their application to access physical copies of the voter’s register after the electoral commission hit them with a bill of Sh80 million.
