Details of Margaret Kenyatta’s private talks with Melania Trump

They talked about their shared interests

Margaret and Melania met privately at the Diplomatic Reception Room in the West Wing of the White House, President Kenyatta and President Trump were engaged in bilateral talks in the Cabinet Room.

The US First Lady later shared the details of her engagement with Margaret, hailing the Kenyan First Lady for the Beyond Zero campaign that seeks to improve health care for newly born mothers and their young children.

“It was a pleasure having at the today. I enjoyed learning about & discussing our shared concerns for the well-being of children,” Melania tweeted after meeting Margaret.

Mrs. Trump plans to visit Africa in October, further reinforcing the deep and long-standing partnerships between the United States and many African countries.

“The determination with which Kenya strives to create better lives for its children is a shared compassion with the United States,” said First Lady Melania Trump.

“I am very much looking forward to visiting Africa.  Thank you to First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for coming to the White House today.  I look forward to future opportunities for us to collaborate,” the US First Lady added.

Margaret, who is a trained teacher, has championed health care for mothers and children through Beyond Zero campaign. She has also supported conservations efforts through the Hands Off Our Elephants campaign.

Melania, a former model, launched the Be Best campaign that focuses on an array of projects that promote children's well-being: from assisting babies exposed to opioids to fighting cyber-bullying.
