Raila among those roughed up at JKIA while defending Miguna

Raila unsuccessfully tried to rescue the general

NASA leader Raila Odinga is among politicians who were roughed up by unidentified police offers who were holding lawyer Miguna Miguna at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

According to Miguna, the police officers who were blocking him had roughed up Odinga when he tried to seek an explanation from the immigration officials.

At around 9pm, Odinga had been allowed into the building where the Canada-based lawyer was being held.

The former Prime Minister then met immigration offices and tried to plead with them to abide by the court order.

Miguna spoke on the door of the clearance section at JKIA where he was detained for more than seven hours after the immigration officials defied several court orders demanding for the lawyer to be allowed into the country.

“We are being held in custody. Theya re holding us because they have got guns, one even manhandled Raila,” Miguna told businessman Jimi Wanjigi who had been blocked from making his way into the clearance section.

“Ah ah ah, who pushed baba? Miguna take down their numbers and we will show the media,” Miguna responded.

The NRM general then responded that the officers were crooks who did not have numbers.

As the situation escalated outside the building where Miguna was being detained, tens of police officers were mobilised to disperse journalists and other supporters who were keeping bay.

About forty plain-clothed police officers would later forcefully grab Miguna before bundling him into an Emirates flight to Dubai.

The self-style NRM general stood his ground on the door of the plane, blocking its take off for nearly two hours.

Eventually, Miguna was allowed to alight after which the security officers took him into forceful custody.
