Full details

In a report by the Daily Nation, an official at the Interior and Coordination divulged that the Canadian Government expressed concerns over the harassment of Mr. Miguna, who is also a Citizen of the foreign nation.

He was deported to Canada on Tuesday night despite High Court orders to police to have him presented in court on Wednesday at 11 am.

Confirming Miguna’s deportation, the Government through its official twitter handle Nexus stated: “Miguna is headed home. The court ordered he gets released and  obeyed the orders and even assisted him with a flight ticket home. Please note he renewed his Canadian Passport on 16th June 2017”.

At the same time, Communication Director at Interior Ministry Mwenda Njoka said that Miguna had denounced his Kenyan Citizenship.

"Miguna denounced his Kenyan citizenship years back, acquired Canadian citizenship & never bothered to reclaim Kenyan citizenship in the legally prescribed manner neither did he disclose that he had another country’s citizenship despite being a lawyer who should have known better," Njoka tweeted.

Until on Tuesday afternoon when he appeared before a Kajiado Court, the whereabout of Miguna was unclear with his lawyer John Khaminwa expressing fears over the status of the former Nairobi Gubernatorial aspirant.

"We have come to you with a very heavy heart, we fear for the life of Miguna Miguna. Is he alive? Is he dead? Is he in the hospital?" Mr. Khaminwa told the judge.

"These are incidents that keep on coming to our heads. Miguna has a family which does not live in Kenya but in Canada. The family is anxious to know what has happened to our bread-winner Miguna Miguna," he added.

On Tuesday night Khaminiwa also confirmed Miguna’s deportation.

“We are reliably informed that Miguna Miguna has been forced into a KLM flight for “deportation” to Canada. Now, how do you deport a Kenyan? This Country has been overrun by criminals,” lawyer Nelson Havi tweeted.

The outspoken barrister and solicitor was dramatically arrested on Friday, February 2, 2018, at his Runda home for taking part in the swearing-in of National Super Alliance (NASA) Raila Odinga.
