Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a stern warning to his Kisumu counterpart Anyang Nyongo following the decision by the latter to ban demos in his county.
Governor Nyong'o earlier this week announced he had banned all demos in Kisumu County unless they are called by NASA or ODM.
He instead said that NASA leader Raila Odinga had stated that demos would be confined to Nairobi unless stated otherwise.
“Raila Odinga has made it very clear that demonstrations will only be held in Nairobi after meeting NASA governors and I was there,” he said while addressing the press.
However, the statement has not gone down well with Sonko who said he had noted Nyong'o's sentiments with shock and disbelief and warned him against such a move.
"I wish to warn my colleague that Nairobi County will never entertain goons and criminals who take advantage of the situation to harass, molest, rape, loot and destroy properties belonging to innocent Kenyans.
"Governor Nyong'o, be warned that Nairobi City County is not ready to engage in hooliganism but in nation building. You owe the people of Nairobi an apology," Sonko said in a statement.
The Nairobi Governor blamed the decline of revenue collection in the city on the multiple days where NASA leaders and supporters have held street protests resulting in Nairobi suffering economically.
