Why Sonko wants these 3 CSs to resign

Sonko's nominee for Deputy Governor was rejected on Tuesday.

Sonko who has taken a swipe at the Jubilee administration a day after his nominee for the Deputy Governor’s job was rejected by Speaker Elachi, vowed to speak the truth, questioning the rate at which the war on graft is being fought.

He argued that it is being done selectively, adding that those implicated in both present and past scandals should step aside awaiting clearance by investigating agencies.

“I know that, because there is currently no opposition in the county, people are afraid of speaking the truth. I was not born a coward and will, therefore, speak the truth,” he said.

Human rights

The demands by the Governor comes days after he questioned the Judiciary for denying bail to the 46 NYS suspects, arguing that the war on graft should not be used to deny basic human rights and break the law.

“Let me state that I wholly support the President in his fight against corruption, but my basic understanding of the law is that everyone is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. In 2010, we passed a Constitution that guarantees the rights of everyone and we should not, therefore, break the same law in the name of fighting corruption,” said Sonko during a funeral in Nyeri.

Sonko’s new twist comes barely a day after Ms Kobia and Ms Kariuki failed to appear before the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday for the second time to answer questions relating to the scandals in their ministries.

Ms Kariuki is in the US on official duty and is expected to return on Saturday, according to the letter presented to the National Assembly Clerk.

The three - Ms Sicily Kariuki (CS, Health and was serving in the ministry of Youth and Gender at the time NYS lost money), Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution CS, and was serving as Agriculture CS  the time the NCPB lost money) and Charles Keter, Energy CS, whose ministry has lost billions in Kenya Power, Kenya Pipeline and Ketraco through dubious tenders.
