Boniface Mwangi shames Joho in new attack

The rights activist shamed Joho in the latest wave of attacks on the Mombasa Governor

Mwangi took to Twitter to sarcastically mock the Governor whom he termed as a "tourist" travelling outside the country instead of cleaning up Mombasa which he claimed was stinking due to mounting garbage that has in the recent past been making negative headlines.

"I arrived in Mombasa last night and if l had any doubt l was in Mombasa, the stench of Kibarani reminded me l had arrived. It’s a rainy morning in Mombasa, the Kibarani smoke isn’t visible but the assault on our nostrils is there. Tourist Governor clean up Mombasa!"  Mwangi tweeted.

Disease outbreaks

Earlier this year, the then Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu blamed Joho's Government for the frequent outbreaks of disease in Mombasa.

The coastal city was described as dirty with uncollected garbage, making it vulnerable to outbreaks of diseases such as chikungunya and dengue fever.

According to the former CS, the Mombasa County Government was not reporting disease incidents to the national government for help.

“The delay in administrating and being able to communicate can affect the population we want to serve. Rain, garbage and environmental condition encouraged breeding of mosquitos and transmission of disease,” Dr Mailu said.

"Tourist Governor"

Joho has also been accused by critics of being a tourist instead of tackling the problems of Mombasa County.

However, the governor shot back at his critics saying he had first traveled for official business then proceeded for a holiday which he claimed he paid from his own personal account.

"I was not missing but away for other matters. During this time, I had a functioning government ... I have competent teams. We have structures that work [whether you're there or not].

Joho was out of the country for almost one month and a section of the public complained that he had left Mombasa in a deplorable condition.
