Speaker Muturi on Thursday afternoon confirmed the MPs trip to Russia defending them saying "it was not a bad thing".

Table report

However Muturi said the legislators must prepare a report when they return to Kenya and table it before Parliament.

"Yes, some MPs have gone to Russia to watch the World Cup as members of the Sports and Culture committee, as well as Bunge FC. It's not a bad thing, but they must prepare a report when they come back and table it in Parliament. That's the standard procedure," he stated.

Expenses

Once in Russia, each MP is estimated to spend at least Sh250, 000 for the match tickets. Some of the MPs travelled early enough for the quarter finals while others are yet to make their way – perhaps preparing for the thrill of the finals to be held on Sunday.

The total cost comes to around Sh2.8 million for every MP. With 20 MPs, that’s around Sh50 million for the entire trip.
