Government to withdraw Guns of All NRM MPs

The new directive comes barely 2 days after the government declared NRM an organised criminal group.

The move comes only two days after Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination Dr. Fred Matiangi declared NRM an organised criminal group quoting section 22 of the Prevention of Organised Crimes Act, 2010.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 22 of the prevention of organized crimes act 2010, the cabinet secretary Ministry of Interior and co-ordination of National government declares National Resistance movement (NRM) to be organized criminal group for the purpose of the act” the special Gazette notice read.

According to the law a person who commits an offence under this section shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years or to both.

The first casualty under the new government directive is Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati whose firearm certificate was revoked on Thursday.

The ODM MP has been directed to surrender his pistol and shotgun by close of business on Thursday.

NRM was created in October last year to lead its supporters in civil disobedience to pile pressure on President Uhuru Kenyatta's government to step aside.
