Two Members of County Assembly (MCAs) were on Monday arrested for

The Meru MCAs George Kaliunga (Antubetwe Kiongo) and John Bundi (Kianjai) were both found driving un-roadworthy vehicles.

Bundi was booked for broken tail lights while his colleague's car had a cracked windscreen.

Explaining to Meru Chief Magistrate Hannah Ndung'u why his car had a broken windscreen, Kaliunga narrated that he had been in an accident involving a construction lorry.

He explained that he was driving behind a lorry along a road that was under construction when a boulder dropped from the lorry and cracked his windscreen.

Fined at Traffic Court

He was fined Sh3,000 with the alternative of spending three months in jail. The Kianjai representative was fined Sh2,000.

Penalties for traffic offenses range between Sh500 for unfastened seat belts and up to Sh100,000 for driving unroadworthy vehicles depending on the defects on the car.

NTSA on Monday announced that they would be incorporating officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to travel as spies in PSVs all through the festive season.

Director-general Francis Mejja ascertained that the crackdown would continue, to ensure instances of fatal accidents are significantly reduced over the Christmas period that has become synonymous with tragic accidents as more commuters travel for the holidays.
