CS puts Raila to task to explain how he acquired Sh1 Billion house in lifestyle audit

Lifestyle audit puts Raila on the spot over property valued at Sh 1 Billion by CS

Speaking in Malava, Sports CS Rashid Achesa questioned how Raila came to own the property which he valued at while serving as the Prime Minister while his mortgage was only 40 Million.

“As we speak today, Hon. Raila Odinga is my neighbour in Kisumu, he owns a house worth Ksh.1 billion on the hills. Let him also be ready to be accountable to Kenyans,” Achesa said.

“He built that house when he was Prime Minister. Let him be ready to tell Kenyans the source of those funds because we know his salary was Ksh.1.2 million and his mortgage was Ksh.40 million.” He added.

According to Achesa, the house in question which he valued at 1Billion is located at Riat Hills in Kisumu and was constructed during Odinga’s tenure as the Prime Minister.

Speaking at an ODM retreat in Mombasa earlier this week, Odinga stated that he is ready for the lifestyle audit in a bid to fight runaway corruption in Kenya.

"We remain in the position that what is good for Kenya is good for ODM. The war on corruption is good for Kenya and we are in it fully, lifestyle audit on leaders is good for Kenya and personally I am ready for it,” Odinga stated.

Meanwhile, a section of leaders have maintained that the wealth audit is not anchored in law and could be politicized to settle political scores.

Led by Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, the leaders opine that the directive, though noble, is entirely voluntary and could face numerous legal challenges.
