Reports have emerged revealing that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) purchased its new headquarters at a tune of Ksh180 million.
The party is said to have made a down payment of more than Ksh20 million and is expected to pay at least 60 per cent of the total cost before moving in by December 31.
Plans to Relocate
According to The Standard, remodellings were underway at the new property as ODM plans to relocate this week.
The new ODM base will be located at Lavington, Nairobi and will be officially announced to supporters by the party leader, Raila Odinga.
Officials stated that the acquisition was part of the party’s re-branding strategy ahead of the 2022 General Election.
Reports claimed that top party officials indicated at major plans to revamp ODM which at one time was the most formidable political entity in the country.
On Friday, the party told its supporters through a tweet to expect a renewed political outfit as “something good and new coming to you soon".
Caroli's Hand in Move
The relocation was prompted by the unwillingness of former Raila's aide Caroli Omondi to renew the lease of Orange House, located in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
Caroli's relationship with ODM deteriorated after he lost to Suba South MP John Mbadi in a disputed party primary in the run-up to the 2017 election.
He claimed that Mbadi used his position as the party's chairman to abuse the electoral process.
Reports claimed that Caroli had kicked out ODM from his property but the party's Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen denied the allegations.
