ODM MP arrested for disrupting government function
Kisumu County Commander John Kamau confirmed the arrest on Saturday evening and and disclosed that he would be handed over to police in Busia to face justice over his involvement in the chaos that was witnessed earlier in the day.
“He came to hide in a hotel here in Kisumu. We got hold of him [Saturday] evening and we will hand him over back to police in Busia because they are handling the matter,” Kamau said.
Wanjala’s troubles started early Saturday morning when he led his supporters in confronting Namwamba who was part of a government delegation inspecting and launching various projects in Budalangi.
The lawmaker quested Namwamba’s role in launching the projects including the Sigiri Bridge that collapsed last year just a few days aftr being launched by President Kenyatta.
“Ababu should stop interfering with my job. I am the area MP and when I won the August elections this bridge had collapsed. It was started in January and is now nearing completion. What is his role here?" Wanjala asked.
His supporters blocked the Foreign Affairs CAS from accessing the dias and pelted him with stones, prompting police to lob tear gas canisters into the air to disperse the irate crowd.
Police trailed the MP and arrested him at Whirlprings hotel in Kisumu County after he fled from Busia.
