US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson jets into Kenya [Photos]

The US Secretary of State is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday landed in Kenya for a four-day state visit.

Tillerson landed in Kenya from Ethiopia shortly after 4pm and was welcomed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec, Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma and Foreign CAS Ababu Namwamba.

The US Secretary of State is scheduled to meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta and other senior ranking government officials.

Mr Tillerson’s talks during his visit will focus on continued support for the democratic process in Kenya, refugee issues, and press freedom.

The top US Diplomat is scheduled to address a Press Conference at the Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi at 6.00pm.

In his speech earlier this week at George Mason University, USA, Mr Tillerson said the US has “a longstanding partnership with Kenya.”

The Secretary of State will be in the country until Monday March, 12.

He is also scheduled to tour Djibouti, Chad and Nigeria.

This is the first time a senior high ranking official from US President Donald Trump’s administration has visited the country.

Former US President Barack Obama visited Kenya in 2015.
