I am back – Bob Collymore’s first message after returning to Safaricom

Welcome back!

Collymore took to social media where he announced his return.

He thanked those who stood by him while undergoing treatment including his wife, his colleagues at Safaricom, and the staff at University College in London.

“I'm back. Thanks to everyone who supported me over the past 9 months especially the clinical team at @uclh, my superb @SafaricomPLC team and of course my wife @WambuiKamiru,” he said in a tweet.

The Safaricom boss left office in October last year to undergo treatment for undisclosed treatment.

In March this year, Collymore spoke to Safaricom investors where he announced he was in the final phase of treatment.

“I have just entered the final phase of treatment and expect to be back in Nairobi as soon as doctors feel that my immune system is sufficiently robust to withstand the infection risks that are usually associated with airline travel,” he said via a video message.

Safaricom Chief Financial Officer Sateesh Kamath, together with Director of Strategy and Innovation Joseph Ogutu had been standing in for Collymore during his sabbatical.
