Senators have come out to accuse Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji of shielding Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru after they held a committee meeting on Thursday.

The two CSs had been invited to engage with three Senate committees over the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS).

"The meeting was restrictive, we were not accorded ample time to interrogate the issues as much as we wished.

House Minority Whip and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr echoed similar sentiments raising a concern over how the data will be used.

"Nothing was resolved at the meeting. The concerns we raised on behalf of Kenyans on data protection have not been addressed.

"The ministers did not give us an assurance that the data that will be collected will be safe," Senator Mutula stated.

DPP Noordin Haji's father, however, told journalists that their deliberations had been fruitful.

He had kicked journalists out of the room before the meeting with the CSs begun.

"We had an in-depth discussion with the two Cabinet Secretaries. We are happy they have addressed all the concerns the senators had," he stated.
