IEBC issues new statement on Chebukati's resignation letter addressed to Uhuru

Chebukati 'had written to Uhuru on his resignation.'

The denial comes following a statement widely circulated on social media purportedly authored by Mr Chebukati to effect that he had resigned.

Taking to twitter, however, the Commission has termed as fake news the resignation of the embattled Commissioner.

“We wish to state that the memo circulating on social media that Chairman has resigned is fake,” the Commission has said via Twitter.

Earlier, speculations were rife that the commissioner had bowed to pressure, and that he had written to President Uhuru Kenyatta to notify him of the decision.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have taken the decision to resign as the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC),” the purported letter reads in part.

Usually, a resigning commissioner from the Commission would do in writing to the President, in process to give a green light to the new hiring process.
