Why Yvonne Wamalwa may not be buried next to her late husband

Family makes special request

It has emerged that the former Vice President was buried at an area where burials are restricted.

The family’s Milimani residence in Kitale was at the time, and remains, a restricted burial area.

However, being a senior government official, the Kitale County Council issued an exemption after special request from the family’s Baengele clan.

The clan is now requesting the Trans Nzoia County government to make the same exemption for Yvonne.

“Burying her next to her husband will be a befitting sendoff for her, we hope the county heeds our plea and bends the rules a little bit just for this case,” family spokesman Simiyu Makeche stated.

Yvonne lost her politician husband in 2003, only six months after their wedding.

She passed on Thursday morning following a six-month illness.
