Violent protests broke out in Garissa on Wednesday in Garissa County over what residents termed as harassment by municipal officers.

Business in the town came to a standstill as youth burnt tires in the middle of the road accusing county officers of soliciting bribes from them.

Residents claimed that county officers had created an inconducive business environment in the county.

Police fired teargas to disperse the crowd which was protesting.

Area leaders condemned county officers for sabotaging bodaboda business by levying excess taxes for those using the bridge.
