President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday sensationally claimed that ODM leader Raila Odinga was the main man behind the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence (PEV).
Speaking in Kisii, where he is holding public rallies, President Kenyatta divulged that the former Prime Minister incited the masses but pushed the blame on Deputy President William Ruto.
"Raila was at the centre of the 2007 chaos in which Kenyans fought but he blamed it on Ruto," he told a gathering of leaders at Nyanturago Stadium in Kisii County.
"Yeye ndio aliwasha moto (He is the one who ignited the flames)," Kenyatta was quoted by the Nation.
Mr Kenyatta added that the Abagusii community had been severely affected by the violence which claimed thousands of lives.
Following the violence, President Kenyatta, who at the time was in former President Mwai Kibaki’s camp, and Mr Ruto who was supporting Mr Odinga, were taken to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to face crime against humanity charges.
The two were in the infamous Ocampo Six list and have since been acquitted.
Nonetheless, Mr Odinga has consistently denied any connections to the violence.
