Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala claimed that Deputy President Dr William Ruto is behind the firing of former Sports and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.
The vocal Senator told off Members of Parliament who claimed that Opposition leader Raila Odinga was behind Echesa's sacking.
"Nyinyi mnajua ile siku Rashid alichaguliwa kuwa CS alisimama mbele ya watu akasema, mimi nashukuru naibu wa rais kwa kunichagua kama CS," Senator Malala stated.

"Ile siku ya kufutwa anasema ni Raila amemfuta. Yule ambaye anakuteua ndiye anakufuta. Raila is not an appointing authority in government," he added.
Handshake
The Senator told the leaders to ask Dr Ruto why Mr Echesa was fired as the Sports CS and cautioned them against blaming Raila for the former's misfortunes.
"Ni makosa sana kusema Raila amenyang'anya Rashid kiti. Mimi ningependa mkitaka kuuliza maswali ya Rashid, enda muulize Ruto," the Kakamega Senator stated.
The Senator told Washiali and other allies of the DP to ask him since he was behind the appointment of Mr Echesa.
Mr Malala addressed the claims by Mumias East Member of Parliament, Benjamin Washiali who blamed Echesa's sacking on the handshake deal between the President and Mr Odinga.

Washiali claimed Mr Odinga influenced the sacking of Echesa who comes from western in order to open a cabinet slot for his Nyanza backyard.
However, some MPs claimed that the sacking of Mr Echesa was aimed at weakening Mr Ruto’s chances of clinching the presidency in 2022.
He claimed that Dr Ruto has been riding on the State appointment positions given to people from Western to sell his 2022 manifesto in the region.
