ODM party leader Raila Odinga has announced support for President Uhuru Kenyatta over a new law he issued affecting those vandalizing the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) today.

Speaking during a public gathering, Mr Odinga stated that he backs Kenyatta’s order to put those found guilty of destroying the multi billion property on a death row.

The former Prime Minister noted that the law should take place effectively.

He supported the project but noted that Jubilee should not assume it is their own.

"This is a good project that will benefit Kenyans but it is sad that it is being turned into a Jubilee campaign.

"Uhuru should not lie to KEnyans that this is his project, we laid the groundworks during the Grand Coalition Government," Odinga emphasised.

In Mombasa, the Head of State noted that he would sign an executive order for the execution of those who will be found guilty of vandalising the SGR.

"Mungu anisamehe (May God forgive me) but I'll sign into law an executive order to have vandals who destroy infrastructure projects hanged," a stern Kenyatta said.

The President mentioned that he had refused to sign the death warrant and advocated for life imprisonment.

However, following the recent vandalism, Kenyatta highlighted that he would sign the death warrant for those convicted to have vandalised the railway line.

At the same time, Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko divulged: "All those identified and apprehended will face the full force of the law and will be charged and prosecuted not as petty thieves but as organized criminals and economic saboteurs".
