Special responsibility allowances, as well as mileage and sitting allowances have all been abolished under the new structure.

According to SRC, the commission is set to save taxpayers more than Sh8 billion annually with the new salary structure.

"Public officers must at all times be accountable to the people and live modest lives and the new structure will contain payment of fixed salary depending on the economy's performance," Serem said.
