Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) Chairperson Sarah Serem on Monday announced the new salary structure for State Officers whose implementation will be ready after the General Election.

According to the SRC, the announcement is under their mandate of reviewing salary structures for 2017-2022 as per the four-year cycle.

Under the new structure, the President will earn a monthly gross salary of Sh1,443,750 down from Sh1.6 million.

The Deputy President will earn Sh1.2 million down from the current Sh1.4 million.

Cabinet Secretaries have also been slashed to 924,000 from 1,056,000.

MPs will now earn 620,000 down from 710,000.

Governors on the other hand will from now on earn a gross salary of Sh924, 000 down from current Sh1.05 million while their deputies will earn Sh621, 250 down from Sh701, 441.

Special responsibility allowances, as well as mileage and sitting allowances have all been abolished under the new structure.

According to SRC, the commission is set to save taxpayers more than Sh8 billion annually with the new salary structure.

"Public officers must at all times be accountable to the people and live modest lives and the new structure will contain payment of fixed salary depending on the economy's performance," Serem said.
