Uhuru responds after receiving request on US and EU sanctions

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday expressed his commitment to ensure that sanctions placed on Zimbabwe are lifted.

The President was speaking today at State House, Nairobi, when he received a special message from President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe.

"Imposing sanction is like tying somebody’s hands and feet, they cannot move. We will give our support to bring back Zimbabwe to the global platform," Uhuru stated.

The President noted that the sanctions were holding Zimbabwe back, undermining its efforts to effectively serve its citizens.

The special message was delivered by President Mnangagwa’s special envoy, Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Perence Shiri who briefed President Kenyatta on the situation in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean envoy explianed that the Mnangangwa regime was doing everything it could to address the challenges facing the country.

Land issues that led to US, EU sanctions

He further explained that the government was in the process of compensating those affected by “land reform programme”.

The programme led to the sanction imposed on the country by the European Union and the United States.
