The complainant reported that the accused with one other still at large, accosted him, collected his shirt, blinded him and ordered him to lie on the floor.

Cultism

The magistrate, Mrs Franca Yuwa, who did not take the plea of the defendant , ordered his remand and adjourned the case until July 7 for mention.

Earlier, Insp. Adama Owochio, had told the court that the matter was reported at ‘E’ Division Police Station, by one Emmanuel Swende, of Logo 1 Makurdi, on April 28, 2017.

The prosecutor said that the complainant reported that the accused with one other still at large, accosted him, collected his shirt, blinded him and ordered him to lie on the floor.

Owochio said further that Swende was beaten on his back with a cutlass and later had his finger cut with a razor and was forced to drink his blood.

He said that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to committing the crimes with one Igba, whose other name is not known and is also at large.

The prosecution said investigation into the matter was still ongoing, and prayed the court to remand the defendant and adjourn the matter for mention.

He said the offences contravened Section 97 and 111 of the Penal Code Law.
