32 year old man in court for stealing mobile phone.

Abayomi Bello, a business man, who was brought to the court by the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Adenike Emma said armed robbers invaded his house on June 18, 2015 at 4:00 a.m.

He said that this happened after he rounded off the celebration party of his wife’s birthday.

He said that his wife celebrated her birthday on June 17, 2015 and he decided to hold a party for her, which extended to early hours of the day.

He said that it was after the last guest left at 3:00 a.m. that the armed robbers came and invaded the house.

Bello said that as soon as he heard the barking of his dogs, he became curious to know what was happening and moved closer only for one of the robbers to slap him from behind.

He said that one of the robbers, who held a gun pointed it at him, adding that while trying to wrestle with him, the 3 defendant, who was not in court, appeared with machete and he was beaten to a pulp.

According to him, “my wife got up to rescue me from the robbers, but was also held and asked to kneel down, in spite of the fact that she was pregnant and was due to deliver.

“They threatened to shoot my wife if I do not bring the money I have in the house, then I showed them where the money was.’’

Bello said that the armed robbers carted away his 14, 000 dollars, five wristwatches, two Ipads, two iPhones and other valuables.

“I allowed them to make away with everything because I was much concerned about my wife and daughter and after they had collected all they wanted, they locked us up in the toilet.”

He said that he immediately contacted the Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), where the police were deployed to comb the entire environment in search of the robbers.

According to him, “when I got to the police station, I saw Obi, who was already making conventional statement about how his car was used for the robbery.

“Obi told the police in his statement that he was the one that drove the robbers after the operation, and then, I also made my statement and listed all stolen items.”

Mr Mazi Osigwe, the Counsel to the 1 defendant however said that Bello’s statement at the DPO’s office was made after the 1defendant had made his.

He said that all Bello said concerning the 1 defendant was what the DPO told him when he got to the police station.

Mrs Bamidele George-Akinseye, the Counsel to the 2 defendant queried how the witness knew the identity of the alleged robbers, adding that since the police did not conduct an identification parade.

He said that the witness was not also around the day the 2defendant was arrested, but that Bello only visited the police station after the arrest.

Justice Angela Otaluka of the FCT High Court, Lugbe, after listening to parties for cross examination, asked the witness to take his leave.

Otaluka however adjourned the case till June 19 for the prosecution to bring the 4 witness in the case.
