Scavenger bags 8 months imprisonment for stealing television set worth N180,000

The prosecutor said that the convict was caught while he was running away with the television.

A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one

The convict admitted committing the offence, while the judge, Hassan Ishaq, who convicted him, gave him N 20, 000 option of fine.

He also ordered the convict to pay N 180, 000 as compensation for the stolen item to the complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mamud Ismail, had informed the court that the complainant, Micheal Abraham of Day Star Academy, Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Maitama Poloce Station on May 1.

He told the court that on the said date, the convict and his accomplice, now at large, broke into the premises of the school and stole a plasma television worth N180,000.

He stated that when the convict and his accomplice were sighted by the school security men, they dropped the television, but it was badly damaged.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 348, 353, 287 and 327 of the Penal Code.
