2 labourers bag 3 months imprisonment each for stealing cell phone

David, 23, and Esene, 25, of Jabi Park, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of joint act and theft levelled against them.

The judge, Mr Abubakar sadiq, however, gave the convicts N10, 000 option of fine each, and warned them to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crimes after serving out their sentences.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, informed the court that on April 4, one Mr Isaac Obuo of the same address, reported the case at Gwarinpa Police Station.

Florence said that the convicts on April 21, at about 5.a.m. formed criminal intention and stole one techo phone, valued at N25,000 and N10,000 cash, belonging to the complainant.

She said when the convicts were caught; they denied committing the offences, until the complainant raised an alarm.

The prosecutor said that the convicts were arrested and they confessed to the crime.

The prosecutor said that during police investigations, all effort to recover the stolen items proved abortive.

Florence who said that the items were yet to be recovered, said that the offences contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code
