Police arraign engineer charged with theft of plasma television

An engineer has been dragged to court by the police for the theft of a plasma television.

The police on Tuesday arraigned an engineer,

Apena, 56, of no fixed address, is facing two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Chief Magistrate, Miss Tolu Idowu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

She then adjourned the case until Feb. 29 for hearing

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February at Borno Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos.

Iseghede said that the complainant, Ahmed Adisa, had entrusted the keys to his apartment with Apena for him to complete some unfinished jobs in the new apartment.

He said that the defendant, however, seized the opportunity to steal plasma television valued at N307,000 and did not finish the job given to him.

He added that the offences contravened sections 280(1)(a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
