Omar announced his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta during a public meeting held on Sunday at the Serani Grounds in Mombasa County.
Less than 48 hours after his defection, local Jubilee operatives have already protested his defection, terming him a hypocrite.
Jubilee’s deputy gubernatorial candidate in Mombasa during the August 8 election, Ananiah Mwaboza, stated that the former Senator was clutching on straws after being neglected in NASA.
Mwaboza, who is also a former MP for Kisauni, was particularly disturbed by Omar’s statement that he was willing to work with former Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shahbal.
“If Shahbal stands a better chance, I will back down. If I do, he will support me,” Omar told the Jubilee leaders.
While the statement received wild ululation, Mwaboza did not join in the cheer and remained pensive.
The former Kisauni MP accused Omar and Shahbal of having their own arrangement that sidelined him in the event that the former Senator’s petition succeeds.
“With them (Omar and Shahbal), first they are riding on ABCD and if they fail, they feel they have been neglected. They are cheated on then cross over,” Mwaboza stated.
Mwaboza also accused Shahbal of failing the Jubilee team when he led the party’s campaigns in the region.
“The sentiments were there, they were everywhere... The majority said they wish Mwaboza was there,” he complained.
