Speaking from State House, President Kenyatta stated that Jubilee had an overwhelming majority and would lead his party in impeaching Odinga in the rare event that the ODM presidential candidate won the repeat elections scheduled for October 17.
“We have the numbers. Even if he is elected, we will impeach him two or three months after,” Kenyatta stated.
Immediately after the President's statement, ODM Director of Communication Phillip Etale tweeted that they would not be cowed.
"Even that IMPEACHMENT won't work. The anger for change is BIG. Impeaching President Raila Odinga will be impossible," Etale tweeted.
Kenyatta further warned the Opposition against threats of boycotting the repeat elections, arguing that normal government operations would go on.
The Jubilee leader spoke when he received a delegation of leaders and professionals from the Ukambani region.
Among the leaders who endorsed President Kenyatta’s re-election included Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
Others were Machakos MP Victor Munyaka, former Assistant ministers Gideon Ndambuki and Kiema Kilonzo, and Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai.
