GOtv Shield defending champions Tusker FC were treated to a shocking 2-0 defeat at the hands of National Super League side Vihiga United in a quarterfinal match played on Sunday at Nyayo Stadium.
The lower league side scored once in either half to book a slot in the tournament’s semifinal stage letting the Brewers out of the competition.
Charles Okwemba stepped up to drive home past Duncan Ochieng’ from the spot after Marlon Tangauzi had handled Chris Masinza’s shot inside the box.
Tusker then battled for an equalizer but Vihiga United managed to keep them at bay all the time.
Second-half was almost a replica of the first stanza where Vihiga United crisscrossed the field with beautiful runs in a bid to widen the gap.
Ugandan striker Rashid Kyambadde was instrumental in the match and his effort clearly added life to his team.
Towards the end of the game, substitute Dennis Lugalia doubled the lead to completely kill Tusker.
Vihiga United have now joined Kariobangi Sharks and Sony Sugar who secured their slots on Saturday. AFC Leopards and Wazito are now fighting for the remaining semifinal space.
