Youngest MP falls victim to fraudsters in new scheme

This is going too far

Kenya’s youngest Member of Parliament John Paul Mwirigi has become the latest legislator to fall victim to fraudsters in a new scheme.

According to the Igembe South MP fraudsters are using his name to con vulnerable residents who are looking for jobs by asking them to send certain amounts of money before they get the jobs.

“I have become a victim of cybercrime. Many people are using my name to con people out of their money. The cons are telling people I am close to the President so I am in a position to give them any job they want,” said Mwirigi.

The MP said he had reported the matter to Maua police to arrest the scammers.

The MP who was launching an initiative to have 250 boda boda operators licensed in Maua, asked the residents to report any attempt to con them adding that he was elected to serve and nobody should pay for any service from him.

This comes days after CID boss George Kinoti on Thursday told the National Assembly Security Committee that the face behind the serial soliciting of the cash from MPs was someone closely related to Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, who has been at the centre of a ploy by the predator to con MPs huge sums of money.
