A man is fighting for his life and another man was arrested after an ATM blew up as they were trying to steal it, according to police.
ATM blows up
Police were called to the scene after an ATM at Premier Stores blew up. It sent a 51-year-old man flying into the air and the blast caused store windows to shatter.
An ambulance rushed the 51-year-old man to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.
Surveillance videos of the incident showed a 48-year-old man, who is believed to be an accomplice, running from the scene.
Police have arrested the 48-year-old man in connection with the incident.
Inspector Fiona Macarthur said that the police are investigating the incident, but so far, authorities believe that the suspects were trying to steal the ATM when it exploded and injured one of them.
JKIA ATM theft
Recently police arrested two suspects in connection with the vandalism of an ATM at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
They are said to have stolen Sh2.9 million from the machine. The theft was discovered by customers who had gone to make withdrawals only to find no money.
