Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two police officers and a civilian in connection to a robbery in Nairobi’s Eastleigh.
In a series of tweets, DCI said that Simon Mwaniki an officer attached to Kayole Police station has been on the run since the Eastleigh robbery incident and intelligence leads directed them to Kahawa West, where Mwaniki was arrested alongside an officer Kevin Marangu attached to DCI Kasarani and a civilian Martin Kithinji.
The three were in one car during their arrest on Wednesday.
“PC Simon MWANIKI of Kayole P/Station who has been on the run since the Robbery at 8th Street-Eastleigh was last night arrested at Kahawa West alongside PC Kelvin MARANGU of DCI Kasarani & a Civilian; Martin KITHINJI. Acting on Intelligence leads, Pangani Detectives intercepted a Toyota Caldina Reg. No. KAY 443N occupied by the three & effected the arrest,” said DCI.
The sleuths further said that after interrogating the three, Police Constable Mwaniki led detectives to his house where Fake currencies, rounds of ammunition, forged driving licenses among other suspicious documents were recovered.
“After Interrogation, PC Mwaniki led detectives to his two houses at Kayole Junction & Hurlingham where the following were recovered; Fake Currencies (KES 29,000/- & USD 8,800/-) ...30 Live Rounds of Ammos, 15 Speed Governors & recorded Compliance Certificates, Forged Driving Licenses, and Suspicious documents including NTSA Stamps, PSV Certificates & Work Permits. Various Police items were also recovered. Further Investigations ongoing,” added DCI.
