Is fight against corruption targeting DP Ruto? - DPP Haji finally responds

Director Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji addressed claims that his office was targeting Deputy President William Ruto in the ongoing war against graft.

Speaking in Mombasa, the DPP rubbished the claims and asked state officers implicated in corruption scandals to carry their own cross.

The DPP noted that the remarks by some leaders that the war on graft was targeting Dr Ruto were reckless and warned politicians against pitting Kenyans against each other.

Carry your own cross

"That is just politics. When someone from your community steals do they share it with you?" the DPP posed.

DPP Haji warned individuals implicated in corruption from ethnicizing graft and attributing their plight on State officers who have nothing to do with their cases.

"If someone comes from the DP's community it doesn't mean it's the DP. Individuals must carry their cross. It's unfair to do that," DPP Haji stated.

The DPP's remarks come in the backdrop of allegations that DP Ruto's allies seem to be entangled in corruption and the State has made it their business to bring them down.

Phantom projects

This has also been seen by some as a way of stifling Dr Ruto's ambitions in 2022.

On Wednesday, a company associated with the DP's Chief of Staff, Ken Osinde, and other top officials was exposed in the Ksh21 billion dams scandal.

The DP's director of communication Emmanuel Talam sensationally claimed that the fight against corruption was being used to fight Dr Ruto.

His claims came moments after Mr Osinde's company was implicated in the two white elephant projects in Elgeyo-Marakwet County began.

It's time to separate the fight against William Ruto from the fight against corruption. It will save the little resources available @HonAdenDuale @OleItumbi @kipmurkomen,” Talam stated.
