Relatives torture a man after accusing him of stealing a mobile phone

A man in Embu was tortured to death by his relatives after he was accused of stealing a phone.

Samuel Gichovi was beaten endlessly by his relatives as they tried grill him into admitting he took the phone.

This unfortunate incident took part in Kathita village in Embu County on Thursday.

Confirming the incident, Embu East DCIO George Etyang said that the woman known as Rwamba Gichuku had on Wednesday accused Mr. Gichovi and Elijah Muchangi of having the phone.

Etyang substantiated that Gichuku and other four relatives raged into the departed house and rounded him and his cousin and demanded that they produce the phone that was worth Sh, 5000.

“They rounded them up and then they were tied up using ropes before they started to beat them up with blunt objects. The dehumanizing act went on for six hours”, Etyang added.

Mr. Gichovi was ruthlessly beaten until he died.

Elijah was later rescued by passers-by and Etyang’s body which had been dumped was taken to Embu Level Hospital Mortuary.

Cases of people being beaten to death due to theft have been on the rise in the recent past. Another incident took place in Voi town where suspected motorbike thieves were beaten to death by an angry mob.
