5 Kenyans killed, 11 missing

May their souls rest in peace.

Five people were on Friday reported dead in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County after they were swept by raging floods.

Details have further emerged that another bunch of 11 people are missing, following a heavy downpour being experienced on the area.

The 11 have been swept away by raging floods at Fatima South Bridge on River Kandisi in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

Eye witnesses said the victims were crossing the bridge when they met their deaths. They claimed the bridge had structural weaknesses that were not known to users.

The Nation on Friday reported that the five— four Standard Gauge Railway construction workers and a woman— were trying to cross the bridge that links Kandisi and Ongata Rongai when they drowned.

The other two, a woman and her son, were killed by floods inside their house near Kiserian. The bridge, which is still under construction, was funded by the county government of Kajiado.
